This course gives firefighters from recruit to chief officer something to remember. From case studies and mayday statistics to bailouts, firefighter rescues and calling maydays. This course will leave you prepared if you ever find yourself dealing with, or experiencing a mayday.

Traffic Management

Learning Strategy: In Person

Course Length: 8hrs

This course is designed to give firefighters the information to effectively set up and tear down a traffic management corridor while operating on emergency scenes. This course covers, arriving on scene,  vehicle placement, setup of a traffic protection area and teardown


SCBA Confidence

Learning Strategy: In Person

Course Length: 8hrs

Learning from passionate firefighter instructors, this course is perfect for new recruit firefighters looking to build the knowledge and practical ability with using an SCBA. Students will learn how an SCBA works, troubleshoot SCBA malfunctions and navigating obstacles while wearing full SCBA and PPE.


Large Commercial Structures (Tactics)

Learning Strategy: Online  or In Person

Course Length: 8hrs

This course brings important information pertaining to responding to emergencies in big box, large footprint commercial structures. From big box stores and storage units, to large distributions centers. This course can be tailored to meet the modern dynamics of your response area.


Vent Enter Isolate Search (VEIS)

Learning Strategy: In Person

Course Length: 8hrs

Whether you have a search building, or need our training props. This is the perfect course to bring together key fire ground concepts. 

Deploying ground ladders, searching, extricating victims and sizing up a structure for search operations. All go into the final product of our VEIS course.


NFPA 1001: Firefighter Level 1

Learning Strategy: Hybrid

Course Length: Online theory with 6 weekends of in person practical training.

This course is built to meet the dynamic needs of volunteer fire services throughout the province of Nova Scotia. 

Working with individual fire departments training officers or management, Clerisy Safety brings instructors with the experience and certifications to ensure new firefighters are better prepared to respond to emergencies and serve their community effectively.

This course meets all requirements of NFPA 1001 and is built using essentials 8th addition.

10, 15 & 20 person course options available prices vary on course size and provincial assistance opportunities.

Driver Operator


Pump Operator 

Learning Stategy: Blended

Course Length: 32hrs

Students spend this course learning the ins and outs of pump operations. 

Whether you're a new pump operator or have decades of experience this course has something for everyone looking to better themselves in the fire service. 

This course aligns with the practical skills required in NFPA 1002.


Aerial Operator 

Learning Strategy: Blended 

Course Length: 32hrs

Learn all the functions of an aerial operator on the fire ground from positioning the apparatus to perfecting your control of the aerial at the pedestal this course will cover all NFPA 1002 aligned content.


Rural Water Supply 

Learning strategy: In person

Course Length: 16hrs

Instructors from Clerisy Safety bring high impact practical training scenarios to your department. This allows your service to practice skills like 

  • Driving / Operating fire apparatus

  • Positioning Apparatus 

  • Water supply officer 

  • Relay pumping 

This is made up entirely of realistic practical scenarios that increase in intensity as the weekend progresses.

Technical Rescue


Basic Vehicle Extrication

Learning Strategy: In person

Course Length: 16hrs

This course covers the basic knowledge and practical skills required of firefighters responding to vehicle incidents. Wether you department has a full compliment of heavy hydraulics or not this course can be tailored to the operations in your fire service.

Recommended if seeking a more text book based vehicle extrication course.


Advanced Vehicle Extrication

Learning Strategy: In person

Course Length: 16hrs 

This course brings advanced concepts and difficult practical scenarios to departments looking to grow their vehicle extrication specialties. This course connects your fire department with heavy rescue specialists from all over the country bringing a range of skills and experience to you.

Students will have to work as a team and think outside the box as the work their way through challenging extrication based off real world call scenarios.


Heavy / Bus Extrication

Learning Strategy: In person

Course Length: 16hrs

This course brings heavy rescue specialists from all over Canada to your fire department to work on concepts required of NFPA 1006 such as 

  • Lifting

  • Stabilization of large vehicles 

  • Moving Vehicles involved in an extrication 

  • Extrication in Large / Heavy Vehicles 


Elevator Awareness for Firefighters

Learning Strategy: In person

Course Length: 8hrs 

Students will learn the how to use elevators to their advantage on fires or other emergencies. Along with learning the basics of ensuring you work within your limits and contribute to the safe rescue of persons trapped in the elevator car. 

This course is for awareness and professional development only and is not an elevator technician certification.

Incident Command & Leadership


Incident Command 

Learning Strategy: In person

Course Length: 16hrs

This course covers key concepts from NFPA 1021 while focusing on the core concepts of managing a range of emergency scenes and leading firefighters as a lieutenant, captain or chief. This course finishes with students having the opportunity to practice their command skills using our computer based command simulators.


Managing a Mayday

Learning Strategy: In person

Course Length: 8hrs

Prepare for the worst case scenario. Don't let your first mayday be your first mayday. Recommended for fire officers within your department this course offers knowledge on mayday statistics and valuable information for your decision making on the fire ground when a mayday occurs. Learn how to tailor a mayday response to the resources of your fire department and practice running the mayday scene on our command simulator.


Managing a volunteer fire company 

Learning Strategy: Blended 

Course Length: 8hrs

The volunteer fire service is evolving faster then ever and the requirements and dedication to volunteer grows along with it. Learn from experienced volunteer fire service leaders some of the key elements of being in charge of a volunteer fire department or crew.

Leadership skills in the fire service 

Learning Strategy: In person

Course Length: 8hrs

The leaders of todays fire service are getting younger and younger the passing down of knowledge from senior leaders to new officers or company commanders is growing thin. This course brings lessons learned from young fire service professionals to your departments leadership.
